Imbros Gorge Walk
Imbros gorge is in the South East part of the White Mountains, its length is 7km, and has slopes up to 300m high. It is famous due to the rare flora and the beautiful landscape all over the area. The walk starts from the traditional Cretan village Imbros (800m high) and ends in the village Komitades (300m high).
Before starting the walk there is a small cafe, if you wish to grab a coffee or local breakfast. After the short break, you will then start the walk through the gorge which is downhill, with a guide who will point out the native plants & give you information about the whole area. The walk takes about 3 hours & finishes at the village of Komatades where you can have lunch in a local taverna with the view of the Libyan Sea. You will then be driven down to the seaside village of Frangokastello where you have approx. 2 hours free time. You can relax at one of the little cafe/tavernas on the water front overlooking the sea or take a dip or just lay on the warm sandy beach. The beautiful castle ruins are just on the beach and can be explored as well. You will be returned to the same point as the morning pick up. Approx return time to Chania area is 17.00 -17.30
Please ensure you have proper footwear for the walks & the things you need, if you plan on having a swim in the Libyan Sea at the end of the trip. |
