Captain Yiorgi's Boat Trip
Although the captain's name is Yiorgis, he reminds us of Zorba the Greek! Full of life & passion for his land, Crete.
Join Capt Yiorgis on his Dream Destination boat trip to experience the beautiful journey from Kissamos harbour to Gramvousa Island & Balos Beach. You will go to the exotic beach of Balos, with it's turquoise water and pink sand which was created by the thousands of shells in the area and also to a more secluded part of Gramvousa island.
The trip involves fantastic scenery, hospitality and a taste of real Cretan foods.
You will need to get your own way to the small Harbour of Kissmamos and from here you will be headed for Balos beach (approx 09.30) where you will will stay until approx 14.00 to enjoy swimming in the shallow waters of the bay.
Approx 14.00 you cruise across the bay to the island of Gramvousa where you are able to hike up to the Venetian castle for the amazing views or just swim off the boat or lay on the beach. Capt Yiorgi has a private beach with sunbeds.
Throughout the day you will be offered Cretan snacks on board such as kalitsounia (little pies with wild greens & cheese 'mizithra") fresh fruit of the season as well as little cheese pies with honey. All to be washed down with your choice of ample cold wine, water, raki or honey raki.
Lunch is prepared on the boat which can be served on the boat or on the beach. Lunch consists of boureki (courgette & potato pie with mizithra cheese), mousaka, stuffed vine leaves & courgette flowers. Cretan dakakia (small hard ruskettes with grated tomato & mizithra cheese topped with a drizzle of olive oil), cheese, olives, tomatoes and sardines.
The main course and specialty of the day is kakavia, which is fresh fish soup made from the fisherman's catch of the day.
After your Cretan lunch, you will be allowed more sunbathing & relaxing on the boat or on the beach
30 minutes before the sunsets you head to the far side of the island taking in the deep oranges & pinks in the sky whilst enjoying desert which is candied rose petals on top of creamy Greek yogurt and, of course, a splash of cold raki or honey raki! Once the sun sets you will then head back to Kissamos Harbour.
NOTE: If the weather doesn't permit the trip to Gramvousa/Balos beach an alternative route along the Peninsular of Spathas will be done instead. On this trip you will also have beautiful scenery and enjoy secluded coves.
